Adventures With Ruby

We rolled in to Alamogordo, NM on April 28. We thought we would have a camping spot at the AFB but it seems most spots are taken up by active military personnel. We did find a spot at an RV park that was reasonable.

We drove through the White Sands National Park and watched a few kids sled down the dunes.

I tried to climb on the dunes but I  didn't get very far.  The sand is a little hard to walk in.  There was a young couple near by and ask if I would like to try their sled  The young man said he would help me climb the dunes to sled down. I said no thank you at first but they kept trying to convince me I could do it. He said he would assist me up the hill. So him and his wife helped me.

Glenn was to take a video but he accidentally stopped the video before I got going good. It was loads of fun for this old lady. Oh to be young again.

It was a perfect day. No wind causing the sand to blow and it was not a hot day.

Brindle had fun exploring but I didn't let him get in the sand.

We went back to the dunes in the evening to watch the sun go down.
It was beautiful!

Adventures With Ruby

Today we broke our traveling rule which is - drive no more than 300 miles and stop before 3:00pm.

We drove from San Angelo, TX to Alamogordo, New Mexico.

The landscape was diverse from farm fields and ranches, to oil fields, to mountains.

We took a detour to a small town I lived in as a child. Brownfield, TX

We traveled the lower route from Plains,TX to Lovington, TX to Artesia, NM.

We saw miles and miles of oil rigs between Lovington to Artesia.

This monument in Artesia is in honor of the oil field workers and pioneers.

Artesia has numberous statues throughout the town.

The landscape changed again as we drove towards Alamogordo.

Beautiful mountains and valleys had awesome views.

Tunnel vision. Haha

It was a enjoyable day.

Adventures With Ruby

We took a little detour on our way West. I use to live in Brownfield, TX so it was interesting to me to pay a visit.

Actually, I lived in Brownfield twice. Once when I was around 5 or 6, moved away, then moved back around 8 or 9.

Dad pastored in this church, if I'm not mistaken. I seem to remember the front. But again this may not be the building. However,  I seem to remember the cross in front. So many years ago.

Dad built a church somewhere around 1959. Not sure of the year but I remember I was around 9 or 10 years old.

The front has been added on to so it does look different. It also looks smaller than I remember but the church (not the same denomination) that is there now, has kept it up.

It was interesting to look around town.  Of course all small Western towns have a Town square.....

....and a grain elevator.

Adventures With Ruby

The Texas Hill Country is beautiful especially this time of year. The wild flowers are amazing with brilliant yellows and reds.

We had not intended to take this drive but the GPS took us on a beautiful loop out from Burnet, TX. Glad it did.

The hill country of Texas is beautiful. I could live here.

Little Ruby is following along well. We are going to put a lift kit on her. She is low to the ground.

Adventures With Ruby

We left Mauriceville TX on Tuesday after Easter and traveled to Livingston, TX. We had joined Escapees RV Club and wanted to check out the headquarters. We toured the mail service. It is interesting how they sort all the mail.

On Thursday, we made our way West and camped near Austin at Cedar Breaks COE park. It is a beautiful park.

We stayed two nights and enjoyed our evening cooking out.

Little Ruby draws attention. We are enjoying her.

Can you see Brindle?  He is enjoying camping too.
