Key West (post three) - Glass Bottom Boat

We had a nice time visiting Key West and I knew I didn't want to leave without getting on the water.  We booked a glass bottom boat sunset tour and I highly recommend the trip.

But... Before we boarded our evening trip, we walked along the bay and visited some of the shops.

Mallory Square is really a gathering place for a wonderful view of the sunsets.  It is a busy place as well.  Vendors set up shop and entertainment of the acrobatic kind -- a sunset celebration.

We were told this cruise was a great adventure.  They serve breakfast and lunch and visit the National Park.   Someday......maybe.

The boat we took.  We sailed out to the coral reef.

The pictures do not show the beauty.

Mallory Square from the boat.

The sunset was beautiful.  Ending of a perfect day.

One day we rented a scooter and rode all over Key West.  We had a fun day.

On the next day and one of our last evenings on Key West, we watched the sunset at Fort Zachary Taylor.  It is really a nice beach to swim and see the setting sun.

Key West (post two) - Trolley View

I'm trying to catch up on my blogging so this is my second posting of our visit to Key West.

We like try to get a view of a city on a trolley to hear about the area and also get an idea of what we might like to go back to visit.

We really enjoyed the trolley (Conch Train) on Key West.  The price of a ticket usually covers two days.

I loved the old houses on the island, especially those with gingerbread trim.

Ship Wheel.  Maybe a ship builder or ship master house.

Gingerbread men.  Probably a bakers house.

Shamrocks.  No doubt an Irishman's house.

Widows walk.  So named as the wives of sailors would stand up there looking out over the horizon for the return of their husbands ships.  Some did not return.

Note the blue painted porch ceiling.  A long standing tradition.  Driver told us it was to keep spiders and wasps from building their nests.

Southernmost, southernmost house.  It seems everyone wants to claim to be the southernmost.

The Lighthouse sits across from the Hemingway house.  We didn't go in either but maybe on our next visit.

We didn't see the six-toed cats but we did see the chickens that roam the streets.

I watched him cross the street.  He had beautifully colored feathers.

He strutted like he owned the place.....well... I guess he kind of does.

Key West (post one) -- West Martello Tower Gardens

On April 7, 2014 we left Miami from the Trinity Church project.  We decided to go visit Key West and camp at the Naval Air Station family camp.  The first two nights we had to boondock but after that we were notified to move to a full hook up space.  We were anxious to see Key West but that first week we were both sick with a cold.  Needless to say, we spent that first week around the camper trying to get well.

By the end of the week we felt a little better and so we decided to leave the camper for a couple of hours and explore the area.  We drove along the Atlantic side and came upon a old fort that is now a small garden.  The West Martello Tower.  Here are a few pics.

Love the old trees.  I believe this is a Banyan Tree.

Love the orchids.  They are just tied to the tree and flourish there.

Another interesting tree.  The Silk Floss Tree.

Loved all the Palm trees on the island.

An autograph tree.  Never heard of an autograph tree.

It was a beautiful day.  We had not fully gained our strength back, so the visit to the gardens was just enough outing for the day.

Final days at Trinity Church, Miami Gardens, FL

After the South Campus was completed, we had to say "See Ya Later" to some of our friends...

    Mike and Dodie

    Ron

But the work continued on a few more projects....

Executive offices will occupy this space.

John and Bill laying the flooring.

   Rolling out any bubbles.

Bill working on a doorway of a storage room.

Showing us ladies of the progress.  The white "baseboard" vinyl to go in next.

    One of the rooms.

The hall had red baseboard but was replaced with the white.  I believe Jack did this project before we had to say "See ya later" to them also....

    Jack and Georgie

There was also a new kitchen installed....

John and Bill laid the kitchen floor.

After all the walls were painted, we had to say "See ya later" to Arlen and Ginger...

But we did get to celebrate Ginger's birthday.

My birthday "card" was a Happy Birthday box...
Happy Birthday Ginger!  I think she got tired of the birthday song....just sayin'.

Cabinets installed by Al and Glenn.

Counter top has to be ordered, but time is running out....

John and Mary left today, Thursday

Also, Les and Jan pulled out too....

And Joyce, our amazing Social coordinator,  left this afternoon ...

Al and Joyce,  the best project manager ever!!

It is now down to three RVs.

Look at that empty space.  :(

Bill and Eddie will pull out tomorrow...

Eddie enjoyed the ride with her daughter.  We had a great time with these folks.

   "Parking" on the beach!

Breakfast on the beach, Hollywood Beach, FL

Dave and his wife treated us to a pizza party.

This has been a great project!   We had a lot of fun, work and sun!
