Key West (post one) -- West Martello Tower Gardens

On April 7, 2014 we left Miami from the Trinity Church project.  We decided to go visit Key West and camp at the Naval Air Station family camp.  The first two nights we had to boondock but after that we were notified to move to a full hook up space.  We were anxious to see Key West but that first week we were both sick with a cold.  Needless to say, we spent that first week around the camper trying to get well.

By the end of the week we felt a little better and so we decided to leave the camper for a couple of hours and explore the area.  We drove along the Atlantic side and came upon a old fort that is now a small garden.  The West Martello Tower.  Here are a few pics.

Love the old trees.  I believe this is a Banyan Tree.

Love the orchids.  They are just tied to the tree and flourish there.

Another interesting tree.  The Silk Floss Tree.

Loved all the Palm trees on the island.

An autograph tree.  Never heard of an autograph tree.

It was a beautiful day.  We had not fully gained our strength back, so the visit to the gardens was just enough outing for the day.
