We rolled into Riverton, WY on Friday, July 22, 2011. We were there to visit Glenn's sister, Mila and brother-in-law, Mike. Sharla and Donovan, another sister and husband came from Washington to visit also. It was so good to see everyone. Glenn was born in Riverton and lived in Lander.
Mike pastors the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Riverton. It is a real nice church with friendly people.

Mike and Mila
Glenn and Mila.
Mike took us up to the Sinks.
We also went up the switchbacks.....
Mila didn't enjoy it too much; she is not too keen on heights,
but I love it. .

This is looking from the Ranger's Station. The water
flows through the Sinks Canyon and continues (next picture) where it disappears in to the mountain.
We watched a video at the Ranger's Station and it told that it is unknown the path the river takes as it flows through the mountain. Authorities, trying to understand where it goes, put dye into the river. Some of the dye was visible after two hours but most did not reappear until four hours later. The river must take two different paths. The river comes out of the mountain 1/4 mile downstream (next picture) on the other side of the road.
Small waterfall and there are puddles of water bubbling up; Springs from underground.
These fish were fun to watch and feed.
Now it was on to the switchbacks.
Lander and Riverton could be seen from this point.
Riverton is about 30 miles but you could see way beyond the city.
This is a lake that Glenn and his brothers fished when they were boys.
Glenn reminiscing.
I don't know how these pretty purple flowers survive growing
out of the hard dry soil and rock. |
