Adventures With Ruby

After we left Devils Tower we weren't sure which route to take but we ended up going to Dodge City, Kansas. Dodge City is an interesting little town and they embrace their rich history in buffalo hunts, cattle drives, cowboys and outlaws.

We found a campsite that was reasonable but nothing special.  But before the lake dried up, it was the place to be as it is still called Water Sports Campground and RV.

We paid a visit to the visitors center and signed up for the trolley tour for the next morning.

Just down the street from the visitors center is the museum. It is housed in buildings that are replicas of old downtown Dodge City on Front Street. Also, you can walk through old Boot Hill.

In the evening we experienced a "shootout" to give you a feel of the old west.

We also enjoyed the trolley tour the next morning. It was very informative.

~Sun Dial. There are two side by side. Between them was the line separating Mountain and Central time zones~

We were a little unsure what route to take since we were limited in time but I had mentioned that someday I would like to visit The Pioneer Woman's store. So after Glenn looked at the map, we took off for Pawhuska, OK.

On our way we stayed at John Martin State Park in Colorado.

The Mercantile didn't disappoint. I loved looking at all the pretty stuff.

I even got to see her husband Ladd. Yes, he is good looking......

.....but I have my own cowboy.

After leaving Pawhuska, we made our way south and met with some MAPS friends. Thanks Beth and Larry. We enjoyed our visit.

We still needed to make our way south and stayed at pretty Lake Eufala for the evening. Even though our campsite wasn't right on the lake, it was still pretty.

We still were not quite south enough; still not within a days drive from Mauriceville, so we found another lake to chill out for a couple of days, Lake O' the Pines. Then, it is back to a stationary life for awhile, and doctors appointments.

As our summer travels come to a close, we are so thankful for the opportunity to have traveled with our little camper, Retro Ruby. She has served us well!  The Lord has blessed us and protected us!   We have had an amazing adventure!

Adventures With Ruby

When we left Cody, WY, Glenn took me to Devils Tower. He had never seen it nor had I. On our way, we stopped in Buffalo, WY to visit with some friends we met on a MAPS project. In fact, we have worked with Arlyn and Eunice on several projects. We really enjoyed our stay. They have a lovely home.

Devils Tower is very impressive. We stopped at a photo opportunity turn out before actually getting to the park.

We were able to get a nice campsite in the park with a great view of the tower.

After setting up camp, we drove up to the tower. I was just going to walk up the path to the base of the tower and huge boulders but we ended up walking all the way around. 1.3 miles

The camp host told us there would be a demonstration of Indian dance that evening in the amphitheater. There were four drummers and about 6 dancers. Amoung them were two young girls dressed in their festive dance regalia. They were so cute.

Brindle found a friend in the Park Ranger lady.

The next day it was on to Rapid City to visit with more MAPS friends. Then on to Chadron to visit with more friends. Thanks to Lynn and Sandye and Bruce and Laurie (Laurie was on a trip of her own to see a sister)   We really enjoyed seeing y'all.  Bruce, the steaks were wonderful.

Rapid City is a beautiful city. Hopefully we can make a return trip someday.
Lynn and Sandy's took us down a street that has bronze statues of the Presidents on each corner. Thanks guys.

Our four month Adventures With Ruby is almost at an end. It has been an amazing trip.

We are now Houston bound but maybe just a little detour.

Adventures With Ruby

August 16-18 we visited Yellowstone. We were unable to camp in the park but we had a nice camp at Rainbow Point Campground about 8 miles from West Yellowstone. It was nice but mosquitoes were terrible.  However, we spent most of our day in the National Park.

This visit to Yellowstone was filled with places we had never visited in the park or else it was so long ago, I had forgotten.

I enjoyed Mammoth Hot Springs. This part of the park is loaded with what I call hot lava flow. I know that is not the scientific name but it is what I think of.

We drove the whole circle around that area of Yellowstone.  From the West Entrance, we viewed Gibbon Falls, Artist Paint Pot, Norris Geyser Basin and Firehole Lake Drive plus a lot more.

Gibbon Falls

We didn't see a lot of wildlife,  but at one point we had a huge bison follow the truck down the road.

The next day we visited Old Faithful and then drove over to the Teton National Park.

Teton National Park

I enjoyed Yellowstone more this trip than any other. And I hope to spend more time in the Tetons.

Now it is on to Cody. Years ago Glenn had bought me a sapphire wrap ring to go with my diamond.  Both rings needed repair and Sean DeNamur does excellent in house design and repair, so we made a special trip to Cody.
