Williamsburg With The Boys

Right after the grandsons, Dylan and Drew, got out of school for the summer we thought an RV trip to Williamsburg would be fun. We left on May 31, 2015 and travelled to Wade, NC. We knew of an RV park there that was nice and knew there was a chance for the boys to swim

A bite of lunch and we were on the road again.

We arrived at the RV park (the park use to be a KOA but now is privately owned and upgraded). After setting up camp,....

....the boys and Glenn got to swim.

The next morning, we loaded up the bikes and dogs and were on our way again by 9:00am.

We had made reservations at the Cheathan Annex Navy RV park. It is a very nice park with concrete slabs and full hookups. Just for info, there are discount tickets at the RV check-in for Jamestown/Yorktown and Busch Gardens and Water Country USA.

It was a rainy week but between drops, we explored Jamestown.

They learned how the Powhatan Indians hollowed out tree logs to make canoes.

They played an Indian ring game. See the feather/corncob going through the ring?

King Henry VIII of England split from the Roman Catholic Church, he created his own church hierarchy.

Henry became the head of the church. The leaders of the Virginia Company were members of the Church of England and brought the established religion with them. King James, as head of the Church of England, wanted to establish a foothold of Protestantism in the New World. The church was also a structure where political business was conducted.

It is believed that Pocahontas and John Rolfe married in the church at Jamestown.

View of the French frigate the "Hermione". The 18th century war ship helped young America win independence from Britian. Marquis de Lafayette played a pivotal role aboard the warship in 1780 that helped shape the history of new America. This full replica is on a historic voyage up the east coast, making 12 stops along the way. It is said the Lafyette became the son that George Washington never had. Lafayette was only 19 when he became an American General serving under Washington.
