When we travel, we meet many interesting people. Next door to us is a single retired flight mechanic turned pilot that travels around looking at the stars. He has a storage unit looking thing on the back of his camper that houses a huge telescope. He is headed to Texas too. He said he is going to one of the darkest places in the U S. The stars are bright in Texas from what I remembered when we lived there.
We are so thankful for our friends. The Robinson's live here in Huntsville and they were so generous to loan us a vehicle while our truck was in the shop. We will take it back today. Truck is now fixed and ready to roll. Headed to Lindale, TX tomorrow for a MAPS project. "Building churches, changing lives".
While here in Huntsville, we took advantage of seeing the U.S. Space and Rocket Center. It was super interesting and as we were in the building that houses Saturn V, a man (volunteer) just walked up it us to answer any questions. He walked around with us telling us about each exhibit. Come to find out, he wasn't just a volunteer, but a retired NASA engineer. We felt honored to be talking to him.
Saturn V rocket. One of only three in the world.
Huge. I couldn't begin to get the whole thing in my picture, so I just got the back end.
Giggle! NASA engineers are very interesting to talk too -- all the way up to when they open their mouth with a physics formula. I sure wish I could put that man in my pocket for this semester!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a good time. Maybe you will put NASA at CHRISTMAS on your list to do.
I would have asked that man to open his telescope up! fascinating.
He did show it to us but it was covered up and we just saw that he did have one in the shelter thingy. Interesting too, was that he had all of his windows covered in foil. He did have two windows that had a small space he could look out. I wondered what he did in the camper to need it so dark???
