MAPS RV Project - Teen Challenge, Dublin, GA - March 12 - March 28

Almost two and a half weeks have past by since I blogged about the progress here at the Middle Georgia Teen Challenge and now the project is almost complete. Most RVers are getting ready to pull out the end of this week. Here are a few pictures of the progress to date.

Siding is now finished on the administration building.

Bill is finishing up on the trim around the windows today.

Last blog the drop ceiling grid was going up and today the tiles are going up.

Also Jack, Georgie and Jan are finishing up the painting.

John has tiled the administration building. Lots of tile!!

Here are a few pictures of the newly renovated administration building.

  Picture window. David's new office.

We were so happy to see Arlen arrive to lend a hand to paint.

Arlen is spray painting the double wide dorm facility.

Some of the ladies painted the poles supporting the walkway. Friends from Indiana, Dottie and Ron, visited and helped too. (Somehow I failed to get a pic).

   Hi. Joyce.

Here is a view of the buildings as of today. A lot of work, but is finally coming to completion.

The double wide is nearing completion also.

The double wide is now five bedrooms, dining room, bathroom, laundry room and kitchen. John also laid the tile in this building.  Georgie, Jack and Jan painted and painted.

Carpet will be laid this weekend.

There has been a lot of work but we also have time for fun and relaxation.

Eating at the Lodge at Little Ocmulgee State Park.

We've had cookouts.

Some of us rode on the Teen Challenge float for St Patrick's Day

Joyce got to ride a hot air balloon.

Up Up and Away.....

   Hot Air Balloon Glow.

We celebrated birthday and anniversaries....

Jan and Les celebrated 50 years together.

We had an Easter Egg Hunt. It was supposed to be a flashlight hunt but rain threatened. Fun was had by all anyway. The winners of most eggs found and the prize golden egg was found by Jack and Georgia.

Most of all we hope we have touched the lives of the young men here.

Storm graduated about a month ago.

We were happy to meet Aaron's family. Aaron has helped many days at the construction sites.

Family day.

MAPS RV Project - Teen Challenge, Dublin, GA - Feb 29- Mar 11, 2016

In this blog I'm going to try and cover two weeks progress and happenings here in Dublin. It has been a busy two weeks of work and "play".

The overhang walk way is almost complete. It has gone from this....

And this...

To this....

Shingles were finished this week.

Aaron, one of the students, has really been a big help in this part of the project.

His strong arm helped in many ways but especially in "throwing up shingles ".

Of course as in the other blog postings, other projects continued. Such as painting!!

One building is almost finished, then it was on to the other building.

This is Georgie working in the administration building. We love the color for these walls; a soft gray.

John has been busy laying tile in the administration building.

    Love the threshold tile.
John always does a great job!

A drop ceiling is being installed this week.

Mark and Mary Ann Rittermeyer, our MAPS RV Southeast Regional Director Missionaries, visited us and Mark started right to work.   Glenn and Mark are installing the drop ceiling grid.

They could only stay for a short visit but we had a lovely time with them.

Grid work coming right along. Bill's boys pitching right in.

    The new lights are great.

The new cabinets are being installed in the administration building.

Overhang walkway is almost finished but some finishing touches are necessary.

Jack is great at caulking, as well as many other talents. Didn't I see you, painting, and installing cabinets?!

A couple of the ladies (Boni and Loletta) baked cookies for the students. I know they were delicious and greatly appreciated.

We also had the pleasure of having Bill's "boys" join in on the work for the week. It was a joy to have them.   They are good workers,

And good cooks.  They provided us a Chicken Wing Ding.  The fried wings were delicious.

    Frying up those wings.

 We had a feast.

I don't know how many pounds of wings we ate. This was just the first batch.

We were so glad that David Kincaid could join us. And, also Aaron as well as Drew and Steve.

These guys kept us laughing telling of their growing up years.

Last weekend, some were able to visit my city, Savannah, GA.

Here we are getting ready to board a trolley tour.

Pirates House for lunch. Our plan was to eat at Mrs.  Wilkes but she is closed on Saturday.

A visit to River Street after a meal at the Pirates House.

The azaleas were not blooming at their peak, but the city was still beautiful.

I was surprised that we were able to visit the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The cathedral was closed for an event shortly after we left.

I love the beautiful old homes and the squares of historic Savannah. I had the privilege of working downtown in an old historic building, The Custom House. The tour didn't point out this lovely old building but it has some interesting history and architecture. If you get a chance google it for some interesting facts.

The tour guide pointed out some interesting information on the double stairs.  A double staircase was designed to separate men and women so that men would not catch a glimpse of a woman's ankles as she climbed the stairs.   On the left staircase there is a plate in the iron work for the men to wipe their boots. It is not on the woman's right stairs.

Some say that is a myth, but regardless, I find that explanation interesting.

Since I was "home" near Savannah, I missed Dublin, GA's Pig in the Park on Friday night.  I heard it was fun.   This event kicked out a month long celebration of St Patrick.

Only a few more weeks left. Time has flown by.
